Built in the 1880s as the Dunwell Paint Shop, this building was later converted into a tavern called John Hen's Place. Originally located on Jobs Lane near Agawam Park, it was moved to the Rogers Mansion Museum Complex in the 1950s for preservation as Southampton Village's downtown redeveloped into a suburban business district.
The Southampton History Museum rehabilitated the structure for public interpretation as a period paint shop. The building was renamed Fordham & Elliston after a historic business once located on Jobs Lane about one block from the Rogers Mansion Museum Complex.
The Fordham & Elliston Paint Shop exhibition is supported in part by a bequest from John L. Griffin (February 10, 1934-December 5, 2022), a descendant of Elliston who assisted the museum with the shop's maintenance for many years. The museum's trustees and staff are deeply grateful to Mr. Griffin and his family.https://www.brockettfuneralhome.com/obituaries/John-L-Griffin?obId=27363026
