Learn how to make your own sterling silver jewelry in the very same space where Elias Pelletreau (1726-1810), Southampton's celebrated Patriot silversmith, practiced his craft! Lessons at the Pelletreau Silver Shop are led by our talented artist-in-residence Alyssa Saccente.

Along with some new smithing skills, you'll take home a finished piece of wearable sterling silver jewelry as one-of-a-kind memento of this truly special experience!

Pricing and Class Options

Introductory Course (3 hours)
Hammered or Textured Band - $200
This course is designed to be a first introduction into the world of silversmithing. All prospective students will be required to take this course before any other course, regardless of skill level. Students will learn techniques such as measuring material stock, cutting material, annealing, soldering, proper cleaning techniques with hand tools (such as filing and sanding), roller printing, hammering or stamping textures, patination, and polishing. The student will also learn the ABCs of the bench and proper studio safety while in class.

Planned Courses (2 hour minimum, overall length determined based on skill)
Hoop or Dangle Earrings - $45/hr + materials fee
The student will have the choice to make either a pair of Hoop Earrings with a post, or a pair of dangling earrings with a French hook. 

Bezel Set Chunky Ring or Bezel Set Pendant with a Chain - $45/hr + materials fee
The student will have the option to create either a chunky bezel set stone ring, or a pendant on a chain. Included in the materials are a selection of stones to choose from that are included in the material fee, with the option to upgrade your stone to something different for a separate charge. These courses include all the techniques built into the previous classes with even more emphasis on design, functionality, and wearability.

Chain Link Bracelet - $45/hr + materials fee
Students will learn how to develop a pattern to make their own unique chain link and use their new skills to expand that into a wearable bracelet with a hand forged toggle clasp. This is the most difficult and time consuming class and may take up to 6 separate sessions to complete.

Terms and Conditions

Safety Guidelines

  • All students must be 18 years of age or older.

  • All students will be informed of the dress code prior to their first class, failure to comply may result in being unable to participate in your class with no refund.

  • All students are required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival to their first class, failure to comply will result in the termination of your class time.

Booking Classes

  • Click on the "Book You Lesson" button above to submit an inquiry form.

    • You will be contacted within 2 weeks of submitting your inquiry form.

    • Classes are booked on a first come, first serve basis.

  • All classes must be at least 2 hours long with the overall length being determined by Alyssa’s availability.

    • Classes are typically not longer than 4 hours.

  • Customers can only book up to 4 sessions at a time, but no more than 8 sessions in a 2 month period.

    • Upon completion of the 4th session in a row, the student may request to book their next classes.

Refunds

  • All refunds at the Customer’s request must be requested prior to 48 hours before scheduled class.

    • Example: If the class is set for Thursday at 4pm the refund request must be made by Monday at 11:59pm.

  • $40 booking deposit is non-refundable.

  • If Southampton History Museum cancels a class for any reason, the Customer will receive a full refund​.
