Artist in Residence, Alyssa Saccente

Learn how to make your own custom sterling silver jewelry in a dynamic and historical space to give you a priceless learning experience you won't forget. Work with our Artist in Residence Alyssa Saccente to develop your skills in metalsmithing, and maybe even develop a lifelong passion along the way! The courses are packaged into 1, 2, 3, or 4 2-hour sessions that can be booked as one-on-one with the artist, or as a partner session. The workshops increase in skill and difficulty as you gain hand and eye skills in design, material, technique, and craftsmanship. By the end of the sessions, the student will have a finished piece of wearable sterling silver jewelry to take home with them as a memento of their experience. CLASS SESSIONS:

 

ONE SESSION: Making a Hammered or Textured Band
$60 non-member / $54 museum member

This course is designed to be a first introduction into the world of silversmithing. Students will learn techniques such as measuring stock, cutting material, annealing, soldering, proper cleaning techniques with hand tools (such as filing and sanding), roller printing, hammering textures, and polishing. The student will also learn the ABCs of the bench and proper studio safety while in class.

 

 

 

TWO SESSIONS: Make your Own Hoop Earrings or Make your Own Dangle Earrings
$100 non-member / $90 museum member

This course takes place over 2 2-hour sessions. Students will learn all the hand skills offered in the One Session course, including design development, measuring stock, cutting material, annealing, soldering, piercing, proper cleaning and finishing techniques with hand tools (such as filing and sanding), roller printing, hammered textures, and polishing. The student will have the choice to make either a pair of Hoop Earrings with a post, or a pair of dangling earrings with a French hook.

 

THREE SESSIONS: Make your Own Bezel Set Chunky Ring or Bezel Set Pendant with a Chain
$150 non-member / $135 museum member

This course takes place over Three 2-hour sessions. Students will learn all the hand skills offered in the one and two sessions courses, including design development, measuring stock, cutting material, annealing, soldering, piercing, proper cleaning and finishing techniques with hand tools (such as filing and sanding), roller printing, hammered textures, polishing, and creating a bezel setting for a cabochon. These courses include all the techniques built into the one and two session packages, with even more emphasis on design, functionality, and wearability. The student will have the option to create either a chunky bezel set stone ring, or a pendant on a chain.

 

 

FOUR SESSIONS: Make Your Own Chain Link Bracelet
$200 non-member / $180 museum member

This is the longest running course, taking place over FOUR 2-hour sessions. Students will gain all the techniques and knowledge of the 1 and 2 session courses, with an additional emphasis on design, functionality, and wearability. Students will learn how to develop a pattern to make their own unique chain link and use their new skills to expand that into a wearable bracelet with a hand forged toggle clasp. The student and the Artist in Residence will work together on the design and execution to create a one of a kind linked chain over the course of the 4 sessions. This class section is the most in depth of the 4 packages being offered.
