Deep Dive: Exploring the Exhibits

Holiday Season Main Street, Southampton (1979-1980)

This is a photo of Main Street in Southampton during the holiday season of 1979 into 1980. The perspective is taken from the western side of the road, facing in the southeast direction. The cars seen parked along Main Street indicate the time period. The bell-shaped Christmas decoration hanging above the street is prominent near the middle of the photograph, slightly to the left. To the left of the alleyway (where the present-day Le Charlot resides) is the Cookery Dock, prior to its closing within Southampton. Further down the road south, as seen on the right side of the photograph, is the First Presbyterian Church.
