About the Event

Set sail into Southampton’s maritime past with this hands-on Spring Break program exploring the village’s rich whaling history. Participants will discover the vital role whaling played in shaping Southampton and gain insight into life at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries. The program will examine both near-shore Shinnecock whaling traditions and the later European offshore methods that expanded the industry’s reach and impact.

Kids will then try their hand at scrimshaw-style art, creating their own designs on soap, just as sailors once carved images to pass the time on long voyages. This program will run continuously from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.

RSVP is required, as space is very limited. Please be sure to reserve your spot early to ensure your child can take part in this unique and engaging experience.

Please note: The program will be held in an unheated building and is weather dependent.
