Explore the life and legacy of Southampton's Stephen Sayre (1736–1818), one of the most fascinating, yet long overlooked figures in America's fight for independence. This exclusive exhibition also delves into the experiences of Southampton's Patriot silversmith, Elias Pelletreau (1726–1810), the occupation of Southampton by thousands of British troops in 1778-1779, and much more.
The Southampton History Museum was awarded a $165,000 grant from the Suffolk County JumpSMART program to support the transformative interior project at Rogers Mansion. Over nearly a year, the Museum worked closely with professional exhibition design consultants Pure+Applied Studio on development and installation, including the elegant design for Stephen Sayre’s American Revolution, the very first exhibit in the updated space.
Additional support for research and programming is generously provided by the Daughters of the American Revolution Southampton Colony Chapter.
The Southampton History Museum's free public programs are made possible, in part, by funding from the residents of the Southampton Union Free School District. Thanks to the generous support of our community, admission to all of the museum's historic sites and exhibitions is also free to the public.
