About the Event
Discover the true story behind the legendary Culper Spy Ring with former Newsday reporter Bill Bleyer, author of George Washington’s Long Island Spy Ring: A History and Tour Guide. Since the American Revolution, and especially following the television series Turn, history enthusiasts have been captivated by this secretive Long Island–based intelligence network.
Over time, myths and speculation have blurred the facts, from the famous tale of Anna Strong’s clothesline to assumptions about how the spies communicated and operated. In this engaging PowerPoint presentation, Bleyer separates fact from fiction, revealing the ingenious methods and real individuals behind the Culper Spy Ring and highlighting the crucial role their intelligence played in helping General George Washington and the Continental Army secure victory.
