About the Event

Nineteenth-century artist William Sidney Mount’s paintings depict scenes of what once was the rural life on the north shore of Long Island. Born in Setauket, his artwork features many people of color, agricultural laborers, domestic workers, and musicians from the Three Village area (Stony Brook, Setauket, and Old Field) and the nearby communities. In The Art of William Sidney Mount: Long Island People of Color on Canvas, a deeply researched labor of love, authors Katherine Kirkpatrick and Vivian Nicholson-Mueller profile the long-forgotten people in eleven of Mount’s paintings. Join Vivian Nicholson-Mueller on this historical journey as she publicly honors the once anonymous models by name. Refreshments will be served.

This program is co-sponsored with Rogers Memorial Library.
