About the Event
A special gathering to welcome the donation of a significant collection of military artifacts into the Southampton History Museum's permanent collection. Join us on Tuesday, October 13, at 5:00 p.m. at the Rogers Mansion, 17 Meeting House Lane, for a presentation by David Wobst, followed by a reception with the Wobst family.
This meanigful gift includes World War II uniforms and artifacts that belonged to David Wobst's father, George, and his uncles, Hans and Heinz, three Southampton brothers who all served in the US Army Air Corps. Their service was commemorated in our Homefront to Battlefront: Southampton during WWII exhibition last year.
Hans Wobst (1922–2010), a B-17 ball turret gunner, earned the Distinguished Flying Cross; Heinz Wobst (1923–1944), a B-25 radio operator, was lost in the Pacific in 1944; George Wobst (1926–1997) served as an aircraft engine mechanic on Guam. The collection also includes the Vietnam-era uniform of Hans's son, Floyd Wobst (1949–1971).…
