This is a postcard of the intersection of Jobs Lane and Main Street in Southampton facing west. The postmark on this card is dated April 24th, 1916. Early automobiles and horse & buggies seen traveling up and down Jobs Lane reflect this period of time.
Featured in this postcard is the Rogers Memorial Library, originally founded in 1893. The original design of the library was carried out by R.H. Robertson, with the building finalized in 1895 and opened to the public in March of the following year.
In 1915, an addition to the library was designed and constructed by Grosvenor Atterbury. This postcard is marked with the year that the number of books donated to the library averaged about 100 books per day.
