Southampton Summer Society at Play: Explore our new digital collection with New York Heritage

We're thrilled to announce our recent collaboration with New York Heritage, enabling Southampton History Museum to reach more people by sharing our collections virtually.

You can now view our newly launched digital collection, Southampton Summer Society at Play, featuring 686 images of Southampton's fashionable summer colony taken during the mid-20th century by society photographer Bert Morgan (1904-1986). These digital images were created in 2020 and 2021 from scans of Morgan’s original photographic negatives as part of the “Digitizing Local History Sources” project by Long Island University’s Palmer School of Library and Information Science with funding from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.

There's more to come! As our staff continues to catalog and digitize hundreds of other photographs by Bert Morgan at Southampton History Museum, we'll be adding further items to Southampton Summer Society at Play. We're also creating other digital collections to highlight some of the many fascinating historical objects preserved by our organization.
